What I'd give to walk through the site as above on a working day!
Seen this pic before, but it is a good one. I worked in No3 mill for a few years in the mid/late 60s as a Lap-carrier. It was hard graft, but I have happy memories of my time there, working with some good people.
My Auntie worked here in the 50s, maybe going into the early 60s. She used to bring home "banding", which was a kind of tubular string which we children used for our whips in games of top-and-whip.
nice pic ron! yes john i was also a lap carier early sixties in the no 1 and it was hard graft up and down the stairs with a lap on my shoulders
Hi Atlas. You poor thing, carrying laps up and down stairs. We must have been cosseted in No3 mill, we had a lift that brought laps up from the Blowing room.
