WIGANTRUSTEE BANK IN KING STREET THE INTEREST RATE WAS BETTER THAN TODAY
Comment by: Wigwann on 13th December 2010 at 18:17
I had a Trustee savings account through my primary school. We had saving stamps with Prince Charles and Princess Anne on the front in differing denominations and we could buy these on a Monday which was Bank Day. I think Princess Anne's stamp was 6d and Prince Charles' was 2/6d. When the total went to £1 it was transferred into the Blue Bank Book. Thrift was greatly encouraged! It must have paid off though as I am still a good saver!!

When I was at the Grammar school, the savings bank was always collected on a Friday in the dining hall by old Pat.(HW Lemon) The memory stays with me vividly today and I can still smell the stale cabbage odour!!
