Josie, I think it was said before but your Mum looks so glamourous in this photo. Real fim star looks.
Wonderful photo.
my daughter in law said she would kill for that coat, she asked had we still got it, i said well if we had all mams girls would be fighting for it ha ha.
thankyou steven x
Can I join in the fight for the coat, Josie?! Peter and I went to the Armed Forces Day at Leigh dressed in the 40s clothes, and you even FEEL elegant.
Thank You Josie, its a great photo You mum looks lovely, I never noticed your dad had his swagger stick. I'll bet that your mums coat went to the toys for rags man that used to come up Belle Green lane in the late fifties.
Gerry : its me that placed the photo for you, it's the one I said I had .....stunning is'nt it ...I am proud to say that that's my Grandad and Grandma...Annie always had a film star look about her did'nt she .....x
gerry,my dad also forgot his belt that day as my mam told us and ive never heard of a swagger stick, wonder what happened to it,same as mams coat? never heard of toys for rags but a donkey stone or a cup or saucer i remember.
get in th'attic Josie ...might find it there??and even I remember donkey stones for rags from , Rag 'n' Bone man, what did the 'Bone mean in that statement??....mi mams outside loo step was second to none..ha ha !!
Sorry Mariyam I assumed it was Josie that placed the photo on here. So I thank you very Much. A swagger stick was usually carried by a sergeant or above maybe your dad borrowed one for the special occasion. The normal rag man gave out Donkey stones.. the toys for rags man gave out toys (admittidley I only saw him once) Mariyam the rag man shouted Rag Bone, obviousley for the rags to be converted into paper the Bones were use to extract a thing called cordite to make explosives. probably a throwback to world war one
wow!
This is my uncle Jim Beckett he was a painter and decorator by trade in his later life he hand painted an Austin 55 it looked like a Rolls Royce with a mirror finish what a talent also he painted doors in his house to look like wood they did too. great bloke I loved him..
thats lovely gerry ,if i say so myself my dad was verry artistic and has passed his trait down to most of us not me ha although i can decorate and put wallpaper on,our madeline , andrew and pat are very exeptional drawers ,my dad decorated our house with pride, it was gorgeouse at time ,i remember him graining our front door in the 50s it looked posh ha,he also was very good with carveing things he made a beautiful jewelery box in shape of a tank gun and all on a swivell, think our raymond has it now ,he made toys and dolls cots for us to play with ahhhh those were the days .
