yes joan this shop was situated opposite wigan fire station .exactly were scs is now on the big roundabout at newtown..
stephen i remember all the bikes from that time not into motorbikes anymore my best 3 bikes were cb400four,gt185,gs400 bought new in 1978...
I only went in Millers once for a 4 inch piece of petrol pipe they wanted 3 quid for it in 1972 needless to say I never went back there.
sounds like a obvious price error i remember petrol TAPS being 3 quid in 1977 and that was with 4 inch of pipe!..i must have sold hundreds over a ten year period.....
I bought a bike from Millers, but the one on Manchester Road Ince, a 250cc Royal Enfield, that would be in the mid to late 50s, I had it exactly 3 days, came off it and broke my leg, 6 months off work, never been on one since.
roy would love to see more pics thanxs
i remember the two white kids suzuki's in the showroom spent lots of time sat on them dreaming in the 80's great times. then i went home and watched swap shop . i think they were about £350 .
I got my Yamaha fs1e (yammy ped) from there in 1976 Remember the reg now, OTB 367R, Also got done for speeding on it Ha Ha. great days.
hi john think i remember you i was working there in 76 and prob got your bike ready i had a ss50 at the time but the FS1E was the best moped...
I know you Roy, i lived on Lambton Street, No3 until about 1965, my Nan had Bradshaws off licence. Didn't you have an RD250?
john i had a suzuki gt185 in gold, my mate dennis had a rd250 i remember the off license was it were kellys used to be!!
Happy days indeed.
I bought my Suzuki AP50 in 1977 (SEK 456R).
Then in 1979 a new Suzuki GT380B (DED117T).
From the age of 13 me and my mate spent every Saturday at Millers dreaming of the day we could ride a bike away.
And yes i still ride a motorcycle every day !
Hi Roy. I bought my first bike here in 1971, a new gold Honda CB250 (£325). 6 months later I bought my first new superbike here, a gold Honda CB750 sohc (£713 on the road! Some time after this I bought a used blue Suzuki GT750 (kettle). Eventually I graduated to big BMWs and I was a biker for 25 years, till I finally got married! I often went in this shop just for a mooch about and a chat. Les Gregory worked here then, a fine mechanic. I remember Peter Naylor too. Nice to see these photos Roy, thanks for posting them.
What happend to trev.
Hi Roy, I well remember this shop as worked round the corner at sarah lynns bakery, spent many a happy hour in the shop oggling the bikes and bought my first new bike there in 74 a dt175 yamaha in gold dust a great looking bike but plagued with problems always in the workshop!
there was a nice mechanic there called les always happy to help.. if only we could turn the clock back as happy times for sure...
I used to know a girl at school carol aspey at hindley secondary any relation to you roy?
Hi I liked millers. And Tom Halls rotordean and rodersons was a good shop back then. I bought three bikes from there myself but I liked Dough hackings Bolton first bike I bought from millers was a DT175mx 1979. RD250 loved how the bikes look through the windows all lit up at night. Great days. I’ve still got a DT. It’s like going back in time.
