Would that be Hilton St behind the goalposts ?

Standisher, yes it must be. Thanks for posting this rare photo Ron. I've never seen a photo before showing the club house end looking like that.

John. Wasn’t the hen pen in front of the club house?.

Albert, it certainly was, but when I first remember it in the early 50s the club house and the whole end had been rebuilt since this photo was taken.

What a thrill to stand in the Hen Pen as a young lad and listen to the "Entry Of The Gladiators" and see your heroes come running out of the tunnel passing the ball to each other and smell the wintergreen. Typing this I can remember it as though it was yesterday. Like football, people will never convince me that today's game is better than it was in the postwar era. They say players are fitter today ?
I remember Martin Ryan telling me that when Wigan played at home, he worked a shift down the pit on the Saturday morning.
I must see if there are any games, at Central Park, from that era on the internet

Ron. Shirley Bassey keeping everyone entertained, on the sound system.

Ron. Ernie Ashcroft’s dad was our fireman, when I worked in the tunnels, at the Maypole pit, in the early fifties.
