What had been your first Latics match Ron? Mine had been the friendly against Everton reserves in '59. A prized keepsake, your Letter and . . . .

Hi Philip I can't remember??? I used to go mainly to watch Wigan Rugby and the odd Latics game with my dad in the 1950's. Also went to Bolton a few times with my dad as it was quite handy to get to from Wigan. Then when I went to the TLS I went to watch Wigan Rugby with my mates and in 1962 started to watch Everton where I had a season ticket from 1963 until 1974. PROPER FOOTBALL... Sad to hear of another of my heroes passing FRED PICKERING.. I remember him making his debut for EVERTON I think it was against Nottingham Forest at Goodison? He scored a hat trick and knocked himself out heading his third goal. The saying, by EVERTON fans at the time, was "IF YOU WANT TO GET AHEAD GET A FRED"

Thanks for your reply Ron. I spoke with a chap only two weeks ago who told me that one of the reasons fans from Billinge visited Burnden Park was the ease with which the ground could be reached. A coincidence, or what.

My Mums family lived in Aspull and all her brothers were Trotters fans. I think this was fairly common once you went past New Springs.
