I recently came across this photo in my father's sporting memorabilia and turned it over to discover he'd collected most of the Wigan players signatures on the back. There are two signatures missing from the team that played the NZ Tourists in October 1947 and one that didn't play as well as one from an opposition player. Of course Wigan had two New Zealanders in their side that day, Brian Nordgren and Ces Mountford, one of his brothers Ken Mountford played against him that day.

Another memory Keith.I cannot see Billy Blan,s or Ernie Ashcroft's Signature and Jack Hilton is not on the photo.My recall of the game was the N. Z winger Forrest,s performancs

Two who played in the match but do not have their signatures on back of photo are, Ernie Ashcroft and Billy Blan.

Hi AB, I might be wrong but I've taken the signature halfway down on the right hand side to be that of Jack Hilton, the writing is not that legible but as you say he did not play in this particular match. There are 12 Wigan signatures but only 11 of the signees played, Ernie and Billy's are missing. No idea who W Corfield might be, don't think he was a member of the NZ party.

Ernie Ashcroft.......the best side-stepper the game has seen : a move seldom seen in the " modern "game , which is so predictable.

Just for the record Corfield was a member of the Wigan club but did not feature in the first team.
