Thanks Ron. Quite the champion was Jack.
He was quite a globetrotter as well GW. There's also a couple of coloured stills of him in his later years, on YouTube.
Cheers Phil. I'll have a look.
Not much joy when trying to identify this racing jacket Ron, but the jacket of cycle speedway outfit Scottow Horseshoes does have a strong resemblance to it.
Philip Jack rode for a lot of Lancashire clubs as well as others in a career spanning 20 years He started at Wigan in 1947 and finished at Nelson in 1968. He also rode on the continent in various countries. I have no idea what club the horseshoe signifies? I'll ask around my Speedway pals. When I next go to Belle Vue If it stops raining <g>
Found it Ron, found it!
I've just had another look at the series of stills that has been put on YouTube, by his son. Amongst the stills is the front cover of a 1949 programme that shows Jack surrounded by a horseshoe. I'll leave the rest to you Ron ... 'Jack Winstanley - speedway', will get you there. Thanks.
Lucky Leicester. What a fitting tribute from his son George. Thanks again Mr Gormley.
You're 'a man of drive' GW. Thanks.
Hi, I have a photo of a group of men wearing a very similar horseshoe vest from around 1950s I was wondering if anyone could identify anyone from it. Apologies if this isn't the right platform for this.
