Now that was a team.
Memories of a time long since past, What a fabulous team they were. Great photo!
Those old jerseys are much smarter than the logo clad modern kit. Bring it back.
I wonder how this team would have fared against the great 80s side of Kenny, Ferguson et al.
Wigan played Workington in the challenge cup 1958. Ladies and Gentlemen here is a Pathe News link to jog the memory. Believe the team for the Wembley final also included Terry O Grady and Bernard Mcgurrin. https://youtu.be/agXdKXfi-a8
Jackie Cunliffe the only man to play for Wigan in the thirties forties fifties and sixties.
They managed to gain silverware (the Challenge Cup) at the end of the 57/58 season, their first since the 1951/52 campaign Billy's first with Wigan after 5 seasons with them.
Ernie Ashcroft was the best " side stepper" in the game.
Poet,80s team er?. Today's Team as someone who goes to every home match ,and Finals must go for the 57/58 team .Played a different type of Rugby them days.Bit Robotic these days but no disrespect to today's players.Still the best team game & Team in the World.
Now that's the team that I remember!Frank Collier eventually came to work at Parkside colliery later.
TD:Correct terry o,grady& Bernard magurin played at Wembley in 1958 o,grady on the right wing with boston left center to Sullivan, magurin replaced evans at loose forward
Bernard Mcgurrin worked at de Havilland Propellers at Lostock and he brought the cup to work. The only time I have lifted the Challenge Cup.
I remember that team. I had only then started to be able understand the game. I was a member of the lads pen - ooh, it was rough in there. Used to climb out regularly to get into the main section.
