Following on from Andy C's "Wigan Rugby" commemorative plaque - here is the ground in question, as shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1890.

This place is the West End Grounds and was the nucleus of all sport in Wigan in the late Victorian era. Home to: Wigan Cricket Club, Wigan AFC, Wigan RLFC, Wigan United FC, West End Stars FC. Closed about 1902 and became a railway yard

It's also the place where Wigan played the first ever rugby tourists to this country, the Maoris in 1888 - the maoris did their version of the haka, much to the amusement of the crowd.

the site became L&Y railway sheds wigan 27d?.it is now industrial units
