This place is the West End Grounds and was the nucleus of all sport in Wigan in the late Victorian era. Home to: Wigan Cricket Club, Wigan AFC, Wigan RLFC, Wigan United FC, West End Stars FC. Closed about 1902 and became a railway yard

It's also the place where Wigan played the first ever rugby tourists to this country, the Maoris in 1888 - the maoris did their version of the haka, much to the amusement of the crowd.
