It wasn't the birth place though. In fact Wigan played 3 games away before that one.

It was a 0 - 0 draw. Both sides fielded 15 players, it was some 10 years before it became 13 a side. As stated they had played 3 away games before this match, winning 2 and losing 1.

The birthplace of Rugby League was the George Hotel, Huddersfield. The plaque commemorates the first game played in Wigan.
