Frank Collier crossing for one of the 25 tries he scored in his 11 year career (1952 - 63) at Wigan (not to mention the 21 goals he kicked). Frank was a truly whole hearted player, giving his all every match. He played 261 games for Wigan and won caps for GB, not only that he went to Widnes where he gained further GB honours and won the Challenge Cup at Wembley in 1964 with them against Hull KR and was awarded the Lance Todd Trophy. Previously he'd won the Lancashire cup twice with Wigan as well as a Championship final against Wakefield Trinity in 1960 and in the winning Challenge Cup Final in 1959 when Wigan beat Workington Town in the final. Sadly Frank died relatively young aged 56 in 1989. The other Wigan players in this photo are Bill Bretherton, Bill Sayer and John Barton.

Sadly, my cousin Bill Bretherton is no longer with us. He passed away in 2014. R.I.P. Bill xx

Great Photo Keith, the golden days of Wigan Rugby League.
Just a small correction if I may, Wigan defeated Workington in the 1958 Challenge cup Final, and Hull in 1959. Wigan defeated Wakefield in the 1960 Championship final, and went on to lose to St Helens in the 1961 Challenge cup final. Just a spot of history for all and sundry. Many thanks for the photo.

Thanks for the correction Syd, glad you liked the photo. Frank was a top man and a great player.

I wish we were still playing at central park instead of sharing with the football team. When the grounds man reported the pitch as not playerbull there was not a game played the following day with the pitch being wartered at half time.
