I was at Stamford Bridge on 14th of January, 1980, when Wigan beat Chelsea, in the third round of the F.A. Cup, 1-0 The weather was absolutely freezing. Prior to K.O. it was doubtful if the match would go ahead, but it did. The surface was more suitable for playing ice hockey, than soccer. Being at Stamford Bridge, I kept a low profile, but inside I was absolutely ecstatic.
Albert I went on the train to that game. A lot of people who went by coach never got there due to the icy conditions.
Albert, I also went by train and met my brother-in-law who lived in London and had got tickets in the main stand. Superb goal from Tommy Gore from a corner. Chelsea fans were OK and were amazed when I told them hom much I had paid for my season ticket at Springfield Park.
Also in the 1980/81 R.F.L. season. I saw Fulham's first ever R.L. game against Wigan, at Craven Cottage. Wigan won 24-?. Whilst on my way to the ground, I bumped into an old school friend of mine, Kenny Brockbank. He had brought a coach party down from Wigan. At that time, I lived in Kent.
