This is the team that played Salford in Blackpool Borough's first game after joining the league in 1954.
This was a team photo, not on the day but a couple of days before. Hence, the different kit.
Blackpool played in their original colours on their debut game.
A couple ( at least ) of Wigan lads on here.
I'm sorry about the quality of the photo but it is a newspaper cut out and its over 60 years old!
May be some one on here can "polish" it up a bit.

I believe Jimmy Hooper, a Wigan lad, played for Blackpool R.L. Club at sometime in the fifties. Didn't he go to live in Australia?.

I recognise Ike Fishwick the ex St Helens hooker, I never realised he played for Blackpool later

Almost sure Roy Thornley kicked the first goal for Blackpool. He used to drink in Swinley Labour Club and was a good mate of Norman Cherrington.

He scored the first ever try for them, Dave. In their debut fixture at Salford. And yes, he was a very good friend of Norman. They were actually on Huddersfield's books at the same time when Norman signed from Wigan around 1963.
