Can anyone identify the team Latics were playing against?

Teams listed as all white in our programme that season were Lancaster City, South Shields, Matlock Town, Rhyl (FA Cup)and Macclesfield Town.

With the all-white strip it must be those Galacticos...Real Madrid!

Any idea on the Latics players,Jeff?

It looks like Bobby Todd on the ball. Doug Coutts towering above at the back.

It looks more like summer than January Species in shirt sleeves?

Comment by: Derek Finch on 16th April 2015 at 19:59

Leaves on the trees, this isn't in January. Can't identify the opponents though.

I can also spot Lee Koo and Graham Oates.

Billy Sutherland is also seen in defence.

Judging by the shadows, the sun was high in the sky. Most likely this was a May fixture or pre-season summer friendly match.

I've just spotted Wally in the blue and white bobble hat, bottom right!

The slides were developed in January 1972, so this must have been an early season match.

Lancaster was first home NPL game but Koo replaced Todd in that game. South Shields wore white but had coloured collar and cuffs

looks like they got more support in those days.

Comment by: Ticsmon on 17th April 2015 at 22:17

It appears we have found Wally's true identity

Considering our average crowds are 12, 000 in a very dissapointing season, the previous comment has no substance. Up the tics,!

1972? This looks much later than that. The terracing in the St Andrews stand has been modified and also behind the goal.

Graham Oates left at the end of 1972/73 season I think so it's between 1971 to 1973

Comment by: Tony on 21st April 2015 at 10:16

Can anyone identify the players apart from Graham Oates?

Comment by: Tony on 21st April 2015 at 10:22

Players (left to right): Could they be Derek Temple, Kenny Morris, Bobby Todd, Doug Coutts, Gordon Milne and Graham Oates??

I think the young lad in the braces used to be friends with another lad that used to run errands for my Grans neighbor. Can't swear to it though
