This is a Photo of Herbert Myers, taken on leave in Egypt in 1944, before he moved onto the Italian campaign. Sitting on camel second from right (no cap). On the reverse he writes to Dad from Bert 1944. So it must have been posted home from the front.

I like this one, Adrian. And it brings back memories of an episode from TVs 'Alwyn Crawshaw's Watercolour Cruise', in which the artist paints a watercolour sketch of the scene shown here (no jockeys, though). It's on YouTube, and 'Crawshaw cruise', into Google, will find it (and its incidental plug for the Derwent 'Graphic' 2B pencil).

There's probably a great big tourist hotel built where this was taken!

This was probably the only occasion those young men travelled abroad, because of the war.

That's right Veronica, and some of the very young having lied about their age so as to experience 'an exciting time' in a spanking brand new uniform and with a belly full of gradely meyt. Yet, they turned out to be very brave lads; as you indeed know.

That's right Philip.. not forgetting some of the more ''adventurous' who came back with more than they bargained for - bless 'em all!
Hope you are keeping well, plenty time on our hands for painting.

I'm ok, thanks, Veronica. Take care.
