It was in Douglas IOM, Philip! Happy days indeed Pey and it was a dump. I was served by Kate Adie, the war news reporter. We had come down from upstairs where a band had been playin'! I think the floor was ready to collapse!

I worked in the Toolroom at Plessey, Union Bridge, With Charlie Watson and his brother Bob. Both characters and funny people. Unfortunately both passed on at a young age.

Played with Charlie and Bobby for Wigan Deaf F.C. Also, Danny and Keith Hesketh. Vince and Alan Lloyd also played...and Mick Hodder.

Yes worked with Danny as well, great lad. He appears in a photo in the work section under Plessey.

Jarvo, it must have been difficult for you lot playin' for Wigan Deaf to hear the refs whistle!

Comment by: Jarvo on 21st March 2019 at 09:05

Johnny: Not really. Eventually, when the team had improved, there were only two deaf players in the squad. Danny was the captain, and what a fantastic player he was. He actually played for England Deaf. He didn't need to hear the ref's whistle. I don't think he ever made one mistake in all the time that I played with him. I used to take the corner kicks; and nine times out of ten they were right on Danny's head. Great times.

And perhaps even greater times lie ahead, Jarvo. I'd love to see Wolverhampton Wanderers v . . . , splashed across the front of our Cup-Final programme again, and for the team to then play in the Old Gold of yore. I'm shouting for them.

Jarvo. I played with a lad that was an England International (Deaf) at CWS Platt Bridge. He drove a Singer Chamois. Wonder if it's the same lad.
