Samuel Catterall born 4 April 1884, Goose Green, Lancashire England.
Died 4 August 1917. Buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
Husband of Betsy Catterall (Atherton)
He was awarded the Military medal for leading the gun line for a few hundred yards over No Man's Land under heavy fire, and kepping them supplied with ammunition. He was killed on the 8th August 1917 whilst riding a bicycle some distance behind the line, he was bringing up rations at the time when a shell burst on the road side and badly wounded him.
Paula I am bound to ask - do you know something I don't as Samuel's photo has appeared on my family page of Catteralls. I'm afraid I don't know of him in my ancestry up to date.
ps I don't mind adopting him if I knew of a connection - he was a very brave man....

No need to apologise Paula- its a mistake that's easy to make. Samuel could be related there are some co-incidences I must say. As said in the other photographs he was in the same regiment and worked at the same place as my grt Uncle William. He is someone to be proud of - he would most definitely have known my relative.
