What a lovely photograph Veronica, and that wedding dress is second to none..beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful, Veronica! x.
I was always fascinated with this photo as I didn't know who the couple were. My grandmother's old tin was kept on the top shelf in a cupboard at the side of the fireplace. Most terraced houses had those cupboards and drawers. As a child I used to go 'rooting' when my mam went out and discovered loads of family photos. I never thought to ask who they were. Now I have ended up with the tin and it's too late!
Beautiful photo,Veronica.Dress and flowers are gorgeous. I know what you mean about not asking when you were younger.I think that many a time.
Thank you for the comments and you are right Elizabeth we should have asked questions then instead of wondering now. I would love somebody to recognise them.

if you have any more info on the family would love to help you find them
Winnie that's good of you but the Hollingsworths lived in Anderton St and she would have attended St Patricks. She was a niece of my grandmother.
Either Mary who died in the 50's or a Winifred. They were my father's cousins. Thanks
The Hollingsworths of Anderton street were some relation to the Hollingsworths Fish shop in Scholes. Her Morher was Elizabeth Morgan before marriage.
what was your grandmothers name
could this be them

does is say 1940s on the photo this may be Mary as pre war marriage not many people had dresses like that during the war
The thing is I don't know whether it is Winifred as I am guessing it does sound likely 1946 after the war. That dress is definitely 1940s style. There is a sister buried with her mother Elizabeth who died in 1946 and she died in the 1950's. I know this because my grandmother is buried in the next grave at Wigan Cemetry.
Looks like it could be Winifred then. Although there is no name on the photograph. Thank you Winnie.
happy to help family history is a hobby of mine let me know if you need any more help i love doing it
Winnie,I would be very grateful if you could tell me where my Grandad originated from, his name was Thomas McGovern and he married my Grandma. Ellen Kinnane, she was from somewhere in County Clare Ireland..thank you ..I hope you don't mind.

My Grandads date of birth was it seems 1872 but my Grandmas was 1874,married 29th July 1893..Grandad buried 6 Jan 1956..grandma 4 Aug 1957 ..if that's any help..thank you,I'm grateful to you for trying.
did they die in Wigan any ideas what their parents may of been called
Found them i will post on here under people for you
Winnie,thank you so much.youre a star.
This is my mum and dad. Dad is still alive aged 93. Mum died 9 years ago aged 87. They married in 1946. Mum had the dress made by a local dressmaker in Scholes. They do look a very handsome couple! John Bentley and Winifred Hollingsworth.
Hi Veronica, Would love to know more about you we must be related. Was in shock yesterday seeing this photo, dd has it blown up and framed on his mantle piece. Mum bought the material herself, there was still rationing, it was a fine soft wool and afterwards she had it shortened and dyed navy blue so it could be worn again. Waste not want not! Her sister Mary died young and left 5 young children, very sad. Three of them are still alive and well and living in and around Wigan. Is there some way we could get in contact? I would love to know more about you and how we are related. I will ty to post old photographs of Mary and Elisabeth and also Jimmy Hollingsworth who lived with us until he died.
It is a lovely photograph Hilary I was always fascinated with it. Her dress was gorgeous and a credit to who made it. What a shame her mother had passed away when they were married just 6 months before. I also have a picture of Mary dressed in a white dress with straw hat. She looks younger than on the photo with her mother. I have a photo of your grandmother as well. ( I think my dad looks like her!)
Could you post the photographs of Mary and Elizabeth please. I am sure Mary's daughters would love to see them. I have created a new category of Hollingsworth. I will post some of James (Jimmy) Hollingsworth, my grandad.
I will post them as soon as I can as I can't do it myself. There are 3 photos. One is Elizabeth(Lizzie) one of Mary and a little girl stood on a chair who I think may be Winifred. She is standing on the same chair that my dad is standing on in another photo. Did you look under the Catterall pictures?
I wonder if my grandmother was at that wedding as both her sisters had died in the January and she died from cancer in Feb 1948. I believe she took it hard that both sisters had died in the same month. 70 years is a long time for your dad to remember anyway bless him.
Hi Hilary any idea who made the wedding dress,I had a great aunt who was a dress maker, and I know she made my mothers wedding dress ,and they was from schools ??
Theresa Your mam would have known Winifred I'm sure- they would have been around the same age at St Pats, also Theresa Boylan.
Sorry she never actually said a name but it was someone who lived close to her and also made her dance dresses for the Empress ballroom. She would see a picture in a magazine buy the material and the dressmaker would copy them for her! A very skilled dressmaker!
Hilary my email is vbiggadike@googlemail.com if you would like to get in touch.
