What a beautiful photograph. Is John Samuel's brother? On my list I have Samuel born 1866 Frederick born 1873 and John born 1876 as well as 3 sisters and another brother named Francis. John is very handsome so there might be a resemblance to Samuel then Lyndon. I also remember Nelly but her hair was white when I saw her. Thank you so much I am saving this now to my pictures. Lovely and if you have any more pictures or tales to tell me I am all ears! Was John also known as Jack?

Fantastic photo of perhaps a middle class family. I love these old photo's and someone still knows who they are, so many of these pic's we see do not have names and are of long forgotten folk. thanks for posting Lyndon

The more I look at John the more I see my mother ...it's the eyes definitely.

Yes Veronica, John is your grandad's younger brother and as far as I am aware he was always called John. He had a son John who I always knew as Uncle Jack. I will post a photo of their father also named Samuel.

Thanks Lyndon I look forward to seeing the photo- if only you had one of Edna's father my Grt Grandfather! The reason I ask about the name Jack was because I remember my mother talking about a Jack and a Fred.

Veronica, the Fred and Jack your mother referred to are my Uncle Jack and his cousin Fred who lived in Hindley. I think I have a photo of both of them with my dad. If I have I will post it. Incidentally am I right in assuming that Edna, in your photo is the baby and the lady is Samuel's wife Elizabeth your Grandmother?

Edna holding the baby is my grandmother and the baby is my mother's older sister born about 1921. I know Edna's mother was Elizabeth nee Pepper. when Edna died she left 5 daughters and one baby died in 1929 named Gladys. Edna died in 1937. All I know is that sometimes she went to Hindley visiting -I don't remember much about that.
