Mary Smith of Scholes in her bridesmaid dress for the wedding of her brother Ralph. She was ten years old. Ten years later she married me.

What a lovely picture of a beautiful girl in a lovely dress!
Am I alone in thinking that Wedding wear was so much more appropriate and elegant than today's outfits? I don't think so!

Ellen, I know what you mean, but I think all brides look beautiful on there day my daughter had a white wedding three years ago ,thought she looked gorgeous , suppose every father would say that wouldn't he.

Sam, I know what you mean, but I can only speak for myself, and I suspect that mothers also feel that way;-I know that I did when my daughter was married!

I know what Sam means the wedding dress of today though seems to be designed more like an evening dress ready for the dancing later on! I remember mine being high up around the neck and tight long sleeves made of thick guipure lace. Fashion has changed a great deal...... I love seeing the 40's and 50's styles.

A countenance of self-control, and 'smashing' hair style to boot. Teasel and Freesia providing a nice touch, as well.

Lovely picture John. You may not remember but I have a couple of connections to you & Mary.
Firstly Mary. Between about 1965/68 I used to take orders out for Harry Sharrocks grocery shop on the corner of Whelley and Sole At. Mary's mum, and then I think you both were customers. I recall you living in the Platt Lane area.
Secondly when you lived in Ellis St. I used to play with your sister Margaret. Though we are not related I used to call your mum Auntie Dorothy.
It's a small world but you don't want to have to hoover it.
