'Oh, I say!'.

Comment by: DTease on 21st June 2017 at 14:01

RIVINGTON!! RIVINGTON!! since when as Rivington been part of Wigan? Don't you know Veronica that there are people on here who take a very dim view of people putting photos of anywhere further north that Scholes Crossing on here?
Rivington indeed!
Sorry, Veronica, it must be the hot weather affecting my tablets.
Stunning photo though I must say.

You sounded a bit like yon mon off the Carry On films there Philip. Was his name Charles Hawtrey?

Comment by: Garry on 21st June 2017 at 17:27

Absolutely stunning and beautiful. It's like seeing a Rolls-Royce for the first time.
I need a Sherry.

Comment by: irene roberts on 21st June 2017 at 18:56

What a pretty girl you are, Veronica! I have relatives called Catterall in Hindley.

Comment by: Ellen on 21st June 2017 at 19:25

An attractive young lady. Does she still have the lovely dimples?

Comment by: puddles on 21st June 2017 at 19:28

DTease,
Rivington was once a Wigan corporation bus route.

Comment by: Albert on 21st June 2017 at 19:41

D Tease. Many a Wiganer, quite a few years ago, thoroughly enjoyed a great evening, tripping the night away, dancing in Rivington Barn. I suspect quite a few of the W.W.A. contributors. I know I did.

Comment by: Philip Gormley. on 21st June 2017 at 20:04

Ozy - You had me worried; enough to have me prise myself away from the swivel chair of my kitchen-office, and then repeat the phrase outdoors. I returned in triumph almost immediately, assuming that my voice now rests comfortably within the baritone register, and that my lack of musical scholarship won't alter the assumption. I'm sure you'll agree: yon lass is a real good-looker. Keep well. Philip.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st June 2017 at 20:19

Very kind of you all- I must admit I was a bit nervous of putting these photos on. But it's a long, long, long time ago! If only we improved with age like old wine. I love looking at other people's photos and I thought perhaps I should. Blame Helen and DTease! :0 )). Irene the Catteralls may be related ....I know there were some in Ince. There's a couple more or so old photos of my family coming up.

Comment by: DTease on 21st June 2017 at 20:53

Veronica, you had no need to be nervous, no need at all.
In 1967 I was 21 Years old and I sometimes wish I could go back and do it all again. But then it comes to me that I would probably do all the same stupid things that I did the first time round so why bother....but still.

Comment by: Maureen on 21st June 2017 at 21:53

Veronica..all my life I've wished I had dimples like yours.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st June 2017 at 23:01

I'm sure you had a nice smile -dimples or not Maureen. Anyway they can turn into wrinkles you know! I keep slapping the Nivea on..and I'm thinking of taking Albert's advice with the olive oil... I did two press-ups this morning!
DTease I'm sure we all think like you at times. The road less travelled!!

Comment by: GW. on 22nd June 2017 at 00:01

Loovely lass . Were you ever a Bond girl Veronica? And DTease. Just about any phone booth will serve as a time machine these days. ( if you can find one ). I know what you mean about making the same blunders tho'.

Comment by: Jarvo on 22nd June 2017 at 05:36

Oh, Ronnie...

Comment by: DTease on 22nd June 2017 at 07:27

Ho no! Veronica not the olive oil, anything but the olive oil.
I got down on the floor to do 15 press ups but before I started I thought better of it. Unfortunately having got down I couldn't get back up again. I had to shout for the missus to help me get up. She came into the bedroom and went into a panic attack thinking I was on the floor due to a heart attack or something.
This exercising thing is far to exhausting for me. I think I'll stick to exercising my elbow in future.

Comment by: Veronica on 22nd June 2017 at 08:18

My word I don't remember causing a stir like this at the time - you are all so kind! It's the looking back and remembering ......!

Comment by: Albert. on 22nd June 2017 at 10:29

DTease. I had forgotten how we got to Rivington. It must have been has you state, by bus. Not many had cars, and even New Springs, from Lower Ince, seemed like the end of the earth.

Comment by: Albert. on 22nd June 2017 at 10:39

Sorry Puddles. I should have credited you with the remarks relating to the bus route

Comment by: A.W. on 22nd June 2017 at 11:39

Rivington Pike was always a favourite day out for Wiganers, usd to get the Horwich bus on Powell Street near the old Drill Hall and walk from Horwich.

Comment by: Sam h, on 22nd June 2017 at 13:10

Veronica, I was the only boy with three sisters and the only one with dimples in family ,the girls loved them back in the sixties ,ha ,ha,but sadly I don't know we're they start and finish at 67yo.

Comment by: Albert. on 22nd June 2017 at 14:20

DTease. If the exercising that you are contemplating on doing is in the initial stages, don't go rushing into it. Build up to your sequence of exercises gradually, or you may do yourself a serious mischief. I have always loved, and still do, and watch team sports, soccer, and both codes of rugby, but was never any good in its participation. I would have never have made a competitive swimmer, and up to being seventy three years of age, I swam two, or three miles each week in Bispham pool, doing the Sharon Davies charity swim, at sixty two (Sixty six miles)over a twenty four week period. (ARC for medical research, and sports charity ILAM.) Why am I ranting on about it?. To encourage elderly people the crucial need to exercise, in some shape, or form.

Comment by: Veronica on 22nd June 2017 at 15:24

Well Sam I inherited mine from my dad - and there's no one else in my family with them. If there had been a question of paternity there's no way he could have won!!! You never know we could be related!

Comment by: DTease on 22nd June 2017 at 15:37

Albert, I have made it my avowed intention to have the fittest elbow in Lancashire by the time my Clogs go to the Pop Shop.

Comment by: Thomas((Tom)Walsh. on 22nd June 2017 at 18:16

Veronica, you have become famous , I've never known a photograph to cause so much interest over 800 views up to now. Hope you are well , Best regards ,Tom.

Comment by: Veronica on 22nd June 2017 at 19:47

I can't think why Tom its only me.....! Hope everything is going well for you.

Comment by: Dave on 22nd June 2017 at 22:25

GEORGE! Quick! Get the ladders to the attic. They're going potty. Could end up on Loose Women or even Big Brother after this! A year from now we could be jiving in St Tropez. What attic? We live in a bungalow. You been at the sherry again?

Comment by: Veronica on 23rd June 2017 at 08:35

Dont worry yourself Dave I can still come and do my shopping in Wigan without being recognised!!! Anyway I would choose a better programme than "Loose Women" although I would love St Tropez!

Comment by: Alan on 23rd June 2017 at 15:43

Lets not go over the top PLEASE.

Comment by: Dave on 23rd June 2017 at 17:38

Veronica , Stop evading the question! At the above time, where you , or where you not a Bond girl? If so, tapes have gone missing? Which coincides with the current absent White House tapes. The plot thickens?
Just having a laugh Veronica. Bet you never had trouble finding a dancing partner.

Comment by: . Ozymandias . on 23rd June 2017 at 19:44

I see you've logged your photo under the heading ' Catterall ' Veronica. Who knows how long this site will exist, but as bits of paper tend to fade, or get lost or destroyed, what an excellent way to allow your descendants to see from whom they inherited their good looks.

Regards. Ozy.

Comment by: irene roberts on 23rd June 2017 at 22:36

You little tinker, Ozzy! Veronica, I KNOW that Ozzy and he is a real sweet-talker.....don't take any notice of him! (Only joking....he's a lovely man!). You've certainly caused a stir on here, young Veronica!

Comment by: Veronica on 24th June 2017 at 08:22

I'm a bit 'flabbergasted' at the response to this photo because 1967 is the year I was 21. I worked at the ROF and the memories it triggers off from catching the coach outside McCurdy's in Scholes and driving through the gates at Euxton was a bit like stepping back into the forties(Irene you would have loved it!) it's just another walk down Memory Lane which we do a lot on here. Anyway I'm far too little to be a Bond girl at 5ft.!!! I wouldn't have swapped that job for anything at the time it was all good fun.

Comment by: Maureen on 24th June 2017 at 10:34

Veronica,my Mam worked at Euxton..I think she retired in 1973 -75. she was a blue band..her name was Ann McGovern..she also loved working there..you might recognize her on Album under the family name.

Comment by: Veronica on 24th June 2017 at 12:26

I looked at your family pictures Maureen and have left a comment.

Comment by: Maureen on 24th June 2017 at 14:26

Thank you Veronica,I realise that Euxton was a very big place to work in..but it was worth a try flower.

Comment by: Dave on 24th June 2017 at 18:54

Think it's the dimples Irene.. We grow old but not dead yet. Are we not
allowed to express like younger folk? This is a fine looking lass in whatever way you look at it .

Comment by: Veronica on 24th June 2017 at 22:26

Youth is wasted on the young- but I'm glad I was young then and not now! It was all too fleeting Dave and I bet you agree!

Comment by: Dave on 25th June 2017 at 00:49

Going back is easy... Its what stays with you that matters..

Comment by: GW. on 25th June 2017 at 01:51

As that great social commentator GARRY would say. A Rolls Royce is a Rolls Royce whatever the year!!

Comment by: Joe on 25th June 2017 at 13:23

Pretty as a picture !

Comment by: Lynne on 26th June 2017 at 15:26

The photo is in the "peoples" section. Hence, it doesn't matter where the pictures were taken. Thank you for sharing, Veronica!

Comment by: Theresa reeves on 1st July 2017 at 00:17

Comment by: Albert. on 1st July 2017 at 14:47
