Hello Winnie, I just tried Lancs BMD , 'Births' which shows two little girls born in Wigan in 1936, Margaret Taylor and Sylvia Taylor(not consecutive registration numbers, so not twins) both with the mother's maiden name being Smith.
Malcolm's mother's name was Speakman before she was married, she was a neighbour of my mother-in-law.
