" O.K. lads ", said Maurice, with an optimistic tone in his voice that was frankly unconvincing, " if we push it back up to the top and try again, it'll most likely start this time, and failing that, I'll get the frying pan on and get the sausages going ". " Bravo Maurice ", cried the stalwart but dejected crew, " excellent idea, probably the best you've had all morning ".

Ozy, was you the one taking the photo while the other two pushed the car?

Why push up the hill?? Maybe a battery or Glow plugs might do the trick..naivety is the word. Seems very inexperienced men to me. Their not making any PROGRESS!

Reminds me of the film "Ice Cold in Alex" when the men were pushing that ambulance up the hill only for it to go back down again. This is the first photo before Mr Grundy thought about lighting the camping stove under the sump.....isn't it Ozy? Didn't you have fun!

Something very Stan and Ollie about these shots.

I used to have an old Merc (1972, petrol) which was often a bugger to start. Twas automatic, so also no bump start. AA threatened to start charging me because of number of assistance requests.

If it showed reluctance, I could only get it started by unscrewing the dashpot cap on the SU carb, and manipulating the piston manually.

I suggested new carb, but the carb specialist told me that would not help.

The Mercedes had Weber or Stromberg carburetter's fitted to their vehicles. SU carbs is a British manufactured company based in Kentish, North London. SU cars were fitted on mostly British vehicles ie BLMC Jaguar Rover.

Yes, that is correct. It was Stromberg manufactued. It was the same style as SU, ie single variable jet.

ie one of these:https://www.howacarworks.com/fuel-systems/adjusting-a-stromberg-carburettor
