A delightful photo & the boys so smartly turned out. A far cry from the little clones of parents you see these days. Lovely !
Yes, couldn't agree more Helen. They look really smart. I know what you mean about clones. It always defeats me why they would want their little boys a 'trendy'thuggish haircut and then put dummies in their mouths !
You both look really smart. Not a dummy in sight. Kids will be turning up at school with a dummy in their gob before long.
I can't imagine these two chaps ever having a dummy - they were bred in the fifties! I don't remember seeing many children with dummies at that time. There doesn't seem much in age between them either.
Helen/Janette/Henry/Veronica: Thanks for your posts. Dummies? ... I can't recall either of us using one; we did, however, find the greatest of all pacifiers to have been a humble packet of Kali, each. Lovely stuff. Our age difference is one year and nine months, while the photo shows Stephane to have been just a few weeks shy of his fifth birthday, and me a couple of months beyond my third. Regards.
Veronica B, (Vb??), I am a child of the fifties, (born 1952), and I had a dummy, as did my son Jamie, (born 1976), and my daughter Ashley, (born 1981), and we ALL benefited from them. The for/against dummies argument will always rage, but I think it is up to each parent to decide what is best for them. Dummies work for some, not for others. I know you to be a very fair-minded person who will see this from every person's point of view.
My Mam tried to give me a dummy Irene but it was spat out! There was only 14 months between my brother and me so it would have been a Godsend I'm sure. My daughter on the other hand did have one and I had a job getting her off it! It all depends if the 'babby' likes a dummy! :-))
Ps Just remembered there were some brown rubber dummies...a kind of 'all in one' dummy!
I once read of a cute little story about Dummies..Mum was trying to get her little girl off the Dummy..she was starting at Nursery School,Mum had the Dummy in her bag and at the door of the Nursery the little girl said to her Mum..( just one Mum) her Mum passed her the Dummy, the little girl had one suck then passed it back to her Mum..she was happy with that..( read that somewhere) and thought what a lovely way to keep the child happy.
I remember having found - dug it up actually, one of those glass feeder-bottles on an old rubbish dump some years ago and later gave it to a friend of mine. Considering the fact his wife had recently given birth to their first child, his work in serving the British public (no shortage of common sense there) and the latest addition to his line of collectibles, provided a moment of some hilarity for each of us.
