Photograph taken just before the Second World War. Does anyone recognise him?

Looks like it may have been taken in the vicinity of the Empress Mill, Higher Ince. Look at Leeds & Liverpool Canal(Places). Page 4. Empress had a chimney similar to this. Just a calculated guess.

Could be Western Mill 3? Looking at the chimney and the top floor elevation & design. The top floor collapsed a few years ago.

I think it's Eckersley's too. Wasn't the Empress chimney circular?

If correct the buildings to this gentleman's left have been demolished hence the large carparking area today. The winding building or reeling building runs horizontal across the chimney and proposals under the current planning application for indoor parking.

A beautiful photo Ron.Where do you find them?

Belting picture, these are probably "milers" ( Unheard of today) Kept in little huts , doors with leather hinges, and carried to race point very often in a hankie on a bike with no brakes or mudguards. Bets were placed and arguments ensued as to the pigeon being let off too soon or late, according to the losers

I have seen this photo before, and I think it was taken in Fouteen Meadows road, with Eckersleys mill in the background.

Andrew. I don't live in Wigan. What is the name of the mill you believe it to be.?
