Wellfield Hotel bar staff photographed at the end of the night shift. Must have been taken midweek, more staff were usually employed at the weekend.
Left to right at the back, Robert Hastings and Fred Hatton.
Front left to right, my mother Phyllis Bowen the landlady, Mrs Hatton and Mrs Thomas? (my best guess.) Mr and Mrs Hatton were also good customers. I promised Mick I'd post this photo quite a while ago but I've only just found it again, and thanks to Ronnie for updating me about the Hatton family..

Thanks very much Keith, I think it must be a different Fred Hatton to the one I knew.

Keith, there is a Facebook group called Growing up in Beech Hill where your photos and memories would be very much welcome. I remember your family in the late 60s and 70s.

Keith, odd how your memory plays tricks with you, because I can't remember Robert (Bob) Hastings working at The Wellfield, even though I was a regular customer through the 60s and to the mid 70s. When we first moved to Beech Hill the Hastings family were near neighbours in Rose Ave.

Hi Derek, Bob always worked at the "Vault" end of the pub so perhaps that's why your paths never crossed at the Wellfield.
Gordon - many thanks for your information I'll have a look.

Keith, last night in the Unity Club in Standish I was talking to Kevin Foy who once lived in Rose Ave and another ex Beech Hill lad who I have only ever known as Dave. I mentioned this photo and Dave said that his mother had once worked at The Wellfield and his surname was Thomas. He also said she was very small and was hardly tall enough to serve over the bar. In contrast to me Kevin Foy vividly remembered Bob Hastings working there,

Well Derek that's very interesting - the description certainly fits, she was a lovely smiling person and yes she was just about tall enough to serve over the bar - one more thing i can remember she had a slight hearing disability. Thank you for the information.
