so sad to see this beautiful old church falling to ruins.. but note St Joseph still shines out in glory.. many happy hours and sins confessed in this dear church

Yes I remember Fr Shee as you said a living Saint I was Born Baptised,Confirmed ,Married here in 1950, Acted as Barman at the club, A member of the Y.C.W.as Leader,Fr Cronin Married us It was his first wedding and he put the ring on Joans wrong Finger,[I Married Joan Hatton also Y.C,w,]I was also the Last person to receive Holy Communion at the Closing of the Church[Because I was the Person chosen as leader of the people who looked after you all at the packed Church on its closing,A memorable occasion,

julie, The church was due to be knocked down but someone stepped in and got it declared a listed 2 building, Which meant it could not be done, so it was sold.Now they are building flats on the side of same plus having converted the Prestbytery into flats as well,But St Joseph/s Statue still stands out shining like a Beacon.Different Proposals have been asked for in the main church building but the Planning Commitee so far have turned them all down.

we lived at 28 in the street banks 1965 went to st thomas;s on the same street

Hi Paul, Yes St Thomas/s was on Caroline Street,I was on the Council with a former Head Master of that school Harold Dowling I also lived near Him in York Street

Wasn't there a priest there called Father Tobin? I went to the school as well.

Yes there was a father tobin he used to come into st josephs school to see us .He also used to stand at the back of the church on sundays and make us go to the front.we lived in york st

I used to attend St. Thomas's school, but I married a Catholic lad and converted and used to go to St. Joseph's Church.

St Joseph's church has been derelict since the last mass took place in October 1995. There was another church about 100 yards away, St Thomas C of E with a spire that was demolished about 1970. Mini, Vauxhall Viva and Victor prked cars.
