Hi janice, this looks an old one, where was park house.
Any idea who the people are Janice ? Great photo!
Hi David, Park House was on Warrington Road across from were the schools are now. Notice the bricked up window this was to reduce your window tax bill.
Hi Ian, Glad you like the photo, regarding the family i dont know their name but they were French and when they went back home a local family named Bentham moved in and lived there i think untill it was demolished. Another grand old house gone.
This photo dates back to approx 1900, the house was reputed to be the first 'Haydock Lodge'and there was supposedly a secret tunnel joining the two. It stood roughly where Robinsons sadlery is today and coincidentally the family in the photo are the Robinsons of Ashton, but not related to the saddlery. The house was demolished in the 1940's.
This photo, is the same photo that was sent to me by the great granddaughter of this photo, Mrs Doots who now lives in france.
She told me that her great grandmother used to let rooms out in the house to performers who performed at a local theatre. She also says that the house she had heard from her family beloned to a man who's wife died and and he went out to sea and never returned. My mums family lived in the house before it was demolished. They where the benthams, They left the house when my mum was a baby.
God how weird to see this photo again, i have the copies here and gave my uncle a copy.
Park House is on the 1911 Census as the home of Daniel Robinson, his wife Ann Jane (nee Henderson), seven of their nine children, and three lodgers.
Their son, Samuel Wood Robinson, married a distant relative of mine, Mary Ann Glenning, in 1913.
Janice - may I use this photo?
I will, of course, acknowledge you as the source.
Many thanks.
