Johnny Morris and his shop which was on the corner of Bryn St and Garswood St. He was a well known character in Ashton. Folk knew him as "Johnny Moggie" and I don't know anybody who actually bought owt off him as he used to run them out of the shop! The shop was full of all sorts from bikes to tin cars, the stuff would be worth a fortune now.

I remember once calling in the shop on the way home from school. I was supposed to get some nails for my dad. I beat a hasty retreat when a spanner came flying at my head!

Whatever you wanted, if he didn't like the look of you (ie if you were under 50 ) you were greeted with "Geet none " ( pronounced "known"). He had an old car in the bacK, with cord-operated wooden hands for indicators. I wonder what became of it?

i remember he used to paint his prams etc every year and put them outside to try and sell.but they were there for ever,if you went inside all you could see was a 12inch square hole to get served through.memories.

My mum grew up on Bryn Street, she reckons the car went to a museum.

We passed his store everyday coming home from St. Edmund Arrowsmith school in the 1960s we were scared of him and we called him Johnny Moggie. I don't think he sol anything, even if you could finf it.
