Maybe someone out there could help me identify the women pictured.

The lone man is the Revd Thomas Frederick Brownbill Twemlow, who was vicar of St John’s, Abram, between 1902 and 1911. He’s the only person I can identify with certainty. I suspect that the ladies were the members of the Mothers’ Union, but am not sure. The photograph was taken by Volney Stephenson, who lived at 203 Warrington Road, Abram. I’d also be interested in knowing whether anyone has photos taken by Volney (an ancestor of a friend of mine who is keen to find out more about him and his output).

I have seen other photos on this site taken by Stephenson. I live at 201 W.Road, the road next to our house is named Stephenson Street.

Stuart: I was interested to hear you live at 201 Warrington Road, a house I've visited many times when my grandmother, Betsy Marsden nee Walls, lived there, so I have some fond memories of it. Is there still a rockery in the garden? Volney Stephenson lived for a time next door (203, the address that appears engraved on some of his photographs, so I assume he had a studio there).
