This can't be a photo of 1908.It is more likely to be 1920s or early 1930s.The cars and ladies clothing give us a clue. The location is not Abram.

I have been reminded by a friend that sadly, the remains of victims of the tragedy were still being recovered for many years after the explosion. This answers the question of the photo being taken at a later date. The location is still unknown.

The location of the photograph is Gerard Street, Ashton in Makerfield. The public house in the distance is the Cross Keys, and the nearer building with the distinctive dome, plus the trolley bus wires and other clues gave me the idea.By comparing with another old shot of Gerard Street, this is correct.

Indeed, it is heartbreaking when you know just how many men and boys are still down there, their bodies recovered...

This is Gerard St, Ashton and shows the funeral of two of the men killed by an explosion on the 12th of November 1932 at Edge Green Colliery, so the date should be November 1932.
