I spent many a happy hour in the morning in the waiting room on the opposite platform with the lovely Carol Dennis.
She was waiting for the train for her Southport school and i was waiting for my school train to Wigan.
Where are you now Carol?
Oh. I remember it too. I was going back to Southport with my Dad Phil. We had just been to visit my Grandparents (& aunties Eva & Eileen) . I used to watch for the steam, at Gathurst!!!!!
In the early 1950's the Station Master was Mr Grundy who, with his wife and two daughters lived in the station house adjacent to the ticket office and waiting room.
My Grandma & Grandad lived in the station house (along with Pugsley and Clumsy the guard dogs!) In the 60's to late 70's. Ted was the ticket officer. Many, many happy memories. Grandma used to cross the lines to get the train to Southport.
I think Maurice Radcliffe used to be in the ticket office in the 1960s there was like an open coal fire in there in the winter
