Postmark on card looks like 1911.
The area on the left after the terraced row is where the houses were built that my grandparents lived in from 1938 to 1957
This is another very rare scene of Appley Bridge
that is also interesting.
As you say the row of houses where your Grandparents lived do not appear to have been built nor i suspect Jubilee Terrace.
Also interesting is the row of houses at the end of the terraced houses appear to be Heyes Street.
Therefore no White City and no Speakmans grocery shop in between.
This is very important in terms of the history and building of Appley Bridge.
What i have also failed to make comment about are the larger houses on the right beyond the field.
This is Speakmans Drive.
I cannot remember who lived in the first two houses but i will find out.
The house just disappearing was Kellys and the next one out of picture was Barnes. Rosamund Barnes now Tait, lives next to me in Ashfield Terrace.
The field on the right is part of Kellys smallholding farm.
Another very interesting point, is that where the row of hedges are on the right became a row of Horse Chestnut trees stretching from Speakmans Drive to exactly opposite you grandfather's house.
I have also just remembered who lived in the first house in Speakmans Drive it was Heyes. The first house in Heyes Street was lived in by Speakmans, which was originally a shop.
Kevin my grandparents live at 33 Appley Lane South.Arthur and Jane Winnard,my mum was Eileen and she had 2 sisters Eva and Mona and a brother Phil.
Mark, your mother and sisters names sound familiar.
Ask them do they remember Sheila Brown and Kevin from Jubilee Terrace.
My Nan lived at Hullet Hole Farm in 1918 does anyone have a photo of it? Her father was Thomas Caulfield a yeast salesman.
what was the name of lino works worked there in the 60s memory not what it used to be
Kevin, if you have more detailed info on the Speakmans with the Heyes St shop, or about Speakmans Drive, it would help my Speakman family history investigations a lot. Thanks.
