The houses beyond the car is Jubilee Terrace.
The first house is no29, the Simms, no27 the Parrs,no25 the Sharples.
I was born at no9.
I cannot remember who lived at no31.
No35 i think was Pembertons and no37 was Linneys.

Can anyone tell me what shops existed on Appley Lane South. I can remember the shops on Appley Lane North but not was south of the river. I lived 15 very happy years in Appley Bridge from 1950 to 1965. I now live in Australia but often think about the village

The only shop in appley lane south was Mrs Speakmans it was on the corner My Grandma and grandad Mr and Mrs Barlow lived at number 63 until they passed away the Darwins lived at the end house I spent all my young years in Appley Bridge their was a fruit shop just before the bridge.

With reference to shops in Appley Bridge South from Stephen.
Christine I think you were a little younger than me, and you lived in 'White City'. You may not have been around when a Mrs Halton had a shop in the row further up than the Barlows, then there was Speakmans, Ernie Speakman was always chasing us out of his orchard, that ran at the back of the whole of 'White City'. There was a shop at the end of Heyes Street, but even I cannot remember whose. then there was the Allison Arms, and opposite was Evans Chip Shop. The grocery shop was Platts, and their son Les still lives there. On the canal bank before the bridge was the Merrick Arms, and in the first corner of the building was a coblers shop, I think Fred Gouldings.

The car was my fathers Ford Prefect . My father was Wilfred Day and we were visiting my grandparents Arthur and Jane Winnard. My mother Mona is standing behind the car

This is Appley Lane South, Appley Bridege, less than a mile from the steep Bank Brow hill. The white car is a two Ford Anglia 100E model. The four door with a different grille was the Prefect. Birmingham registration XOE267.
