This photo taken in 1993 shows my father William Bradshaw, standing beside the fingerpost sign. As a young man he attended night school at the college, subject weaving. My grandfather was a lecturer in mining there & it was at a college dance my father met my mother...she always said he was wearing an awful plum coloured suit but it didn't seem to put her off !

I studied in the Library Street building in the early 1980's and on visiting Wigan last Monday was surprised to find this is now the Town Hall - with the original terracotta carved name above the grand front entrance now covered over with what looks like a 'stuck on' name plate inscribed Town Hall! Thankfully the original Mining College plaque survives intact, to the left of the main front entrance, and the side doorway still bears the original 'College Hall' carved within the terracotta above. Lovely building - makes a nice Town Hall though many of the basement rooms looked empty and underused from street level - I walked the entire way around the block! Happy memories . . .
