Seeing Thomas Sutch's excellent photo of the Bickershaw Colliery locos and Winder's comments encouraged me to root this one out. Taken in the Spring of 1971, it shows the locos and the BR diesel arriving to pick up the wagons. I think the buildings in the background are Bickershaw Colliery Cricket Club?

There used to be a building called Bolton House in that area according to the old maps, you had to cross over the line to get to it. Superb photo, Arthur.

Buildings in background are part of Albert Colliery on which site the opencast disposal site would later operate from.

The building to the immediate right of the loco is still there. The design of the building is along the lines of a pithead baths, and very similar to the one which used to be at Robin Hill Drift.

re the comment by Winder. The building just across the railway line was Bickershaw House, not Bolton House. It was a very large house split into two. It was demolished some time in the 70's, I think and a modern house built on the site There were several cottages another 300 yards down the dirt road from Bickershaw House and these were known as Bolton Houses. Winder must be getting mixed up with these.
