Dated approx 1953 but I am very unsure about the location. The Wigan Alps are on the horizon but the only slag heaps - bottom left - I can think to place would be the grey hills at the side of the canal at Ince. This doesn't seem to fit with the houses away right. Could this be looking down towards the Alex from the canal?
I just don't know where I am.

Could it be somewhere in the region of Kirkless Hall? That would place the canal on your left. The small row of terraced houses in the middle distance look like those on Whelley, between Ellis Street and the old Co-op.
