Hindley Reservoir circa 1957 on a good day.
This was one of our most favourite places for fishing in 1969/1970 with ever obliging crucian carp to keep the rod top bouncing. We used to fish from the road bridge with the traffic going by a foot behind us. How dangerous was that! I have a faint memory that it was this kind of activity that caused the golf club to stop all fishing on here. I'm not sure about that but I do know that when Wigan Anglers lost this water they were allowed to net it and the crucians went into the Deep Pit to emerge for a couple of seasons bigger and stronger and ever more difficult to catch.

me and my mates used to fish this pond in tjhe early 60s.
as you say the little carp were a joy to fish for.
we would use bread and custard powder mixed together.
the little carp loved it.

The reason it was stopped was due to anglers, the roadside was the only side we could fish from,H.H.G.C did'nt mind us fishing there, but everywhere else was banned, but some anglers took no notice so we lost all the fishing rights.
