Whereabouts in Market place was this pub? Is the building still there? Thanks
The pub has gone but the alley way is still there. It is opposite Donald and Aitchisons
Had many a happy hour in there, the singing room at the back used to be a Music Hall.
An owd Brass Banding mate o' mine Horace Hersnip, rattled the drums at the weekends.
Go to the "Emp" late dance on a Friday,(5 bob) get a passout & nip in't'Dog for a few, always a good neet ;o)
Horace Hersnip was my grandfather. I never met him, but would love a photo of him. can anyone help
doing my family tree, and now dicover my great grand aunts son married to elizabeth ellen jolley lived there, elizabeth s mother also this was in 1911
harry and joan goulding who where my mother and father where the last landlord and landlady to be in the pub before it got sold
My parents Phil and Eveline ran the Old Dog in about 1968 and offered bed and breakfast for cabaret artists appearing at the Casino. I spent many a happy hour gazing from the upper window onto the busy street below.
We later moved to the Railway Inn in Spring View.
Was the Old dog where Santander now is on the corner of Coopers Row?
Just to confirm that it was and this attractive pub was demolished to make way for a new build with Mock Tudor frontage.
