Yes I remember this shop as Harry Whittle's mens outfitters.Harry had a 2 seater sports car & took snuff from a little box in his pocket.
Any more like this Arthur? My Grandparents had a grocers & coal merchants at No.95 Market St in 1925.
Great picture! My maternal grandmother was born at 100 Market Street in 1888, was that where the library is now? I understand that she lived in some sort of shop. Family name was Roper.
Hi Wigwann,
My maternal grandmother lived at 89 Market Street, she was a servant for a beerseller, her name was Alice Roper. The year was 1891.
Her half-brother James Roper lived at 100 Market Street with his wife Sarah Anne and family.
It appears you are in some way related to me.
James' father John Roper married twice, I have lots of info on the family if you are interested.
I think we must be related, Minstrel, love to hear from you
This shop is directly opposite Hindley Library, now Brian's Hindley TV shop, featured on Youtube. "The Trafalgar Buildings 1906" plaque is a dead givaway.
