Robertson's Hindley Wool Store, Trafalgar Buildings, Market Street (Opposite Hindley Library), date unknown, but pre-1925. In the 1925 Hindley Directory Thomas Robertson, Draper, Hosier and Wool Stores is at 83 Market Street(near to Chapel Street). This photo shows, presumably, an earlier store occupied by Robertson's. This shop was later occupied (I think) by Harry Whittle as a Gent's Outfitter's.

Great picture! My maternal grandmother was born at 100 Market Street in 1888, was that where the library is now? I understand that she lived in some sort of shop. Family name was Roper.

Hi Wigwann,
My maternal grandmother lived at 89 Market Street, she was a servant for a beerseller, her name was Alice Roper. The year was 1891.
Her half-brother James Roper lived at 100 Market Street with his wife Sarah Anne and family.
It appears you are in some way related to me.
James' father John Roper married twice, I have lots of info on the family if you are interested.

This shop is directly opposite Hindley Library, now Brian's Hindley TV shop, featured on Youtube. "The Trafalgar Buildings 1906" plaque is a dead givaway.
