Drawing loaned in 1840 by Dr. Prosser White. At this time Hallgate started in the Market Place. Now Market St. and turned left at the Crofters then continued as it does today.

That narrow lane at the side of The Crofters in the early 1800's would lead down to Boothers Croft field on the right upon which the Market Square and the Market Hall would be built. The lane itself becoming Market Street.

Ron, it's bound to happen that photos get put on twice. Some time ago I put a photo on of my brother on one of those seaside "motor bikes" that are a photographer's prop and then realised I had already put it on many years ago! I hadn't seen this Hallgate photo before and I'm sure many other people hadn't either so it was new to me.

Ron , I did not mean you had posted it twice. The one i found was a photograph of this same location. I thought this interesting. There is a name on the building with the cross and orb sign which someone may recognise. See it under recently commented.

Ron, is that The Queens Head on the left?
