The buildings are on Wilcox’s place .
( where they sold spuds and kept a few pet sheep until recently ).
I must have missed this one Ozy.
By the way did you get a photo of the ‘ forgotten steps’ on the less walked on side of the Duggy.?
I did get a photo of what I considered to be the only possible former site of your steps Veronica.
In fact I took a number of shots of the area , but for some reason or other I couldn’t get them to upload onto the site and as I have neither
your email address , nor Irene’s , I had no way of getting them to you , so I deleted them unfortunately ,.. Sorry !
Still , it’s only a two minute job to go back down there and take them again .
I even went back down there with a spade to try to unearth the blimmin’ steps themselves , but quickly realised that it’s a job for a mini hydraulic excavator .
Lord Carnarvon wouldn’t have given up. I can see I will have to go myself and get mi pumps sluched up. Ron can give you my email if you do go again Ozy. Thanks anyway.
I wouldn’t have given up either Veronica if like Lord Carnarvon , I’d had a battalion of Egyptian lackeys at my disposal .
Let me know when you’re planning to go down there so that I can come along and point at the area where you need to start digging .
Oh ! And bring a mattock with you , as a spade’s useless I’ve discovered .
Very true that Ozy …I daresay it’s the ‘lackeys’ that have made themselves rich from pilfering the old tombs. It will have to be a nice day when I go there..I will let you know..I haven’t been going to Wigan much apart from Spec Savers and the bank.
As an ex employee of the ORDNANCE SURVEY i am deeply interested in all these photos that are being posted what i would now like to know just who the person is who has all these wonderful photo's i would love for him or her to cantact me as the man in most of them really looks like one of the surveyors i used to work with . i will give you my e-mail address which i dont normally it is ;
alanw47@sky.com
Just put Time Pix in Google Alan. You will find thousands on there.
Cyril knows something about them.
I do hope this isn’t a trap Mr Winstanley .
If the photograph above dates from 1950 , and the chap in the shot is 40 years old let’s say , that would make him 114 years old now .
I doubt if anyone on this site can give you an answer to your query but if you go onto the Timepix site , you may find a link on there that can direct you to someone who could help .
Best of luck .
Thank you very much for your kind info Veronica i will try theat.
Hi Ozy , I dont understand what you mean a trap >With the greatest respect i do understand the age diff ,but at the time i started to work for the O/S i was regarded as the ""KID " of the sections ie all the guys were considerably a lot older than myself thus my reamark that one of the men looked familar . Hope this answers your comment.
This is for Veronica i would like to thank you very much for your kind suggestion i did look up the google page and found it very interesting again thanks.
As for Ozy, I don't understand your comment;
"I hope it isn't a trap" All i can say to that is that when i began working for the O/S i was regarded as the "KID " Of the section as the guys were really a lot older that myself thus my reason for asking has one of those men did look very similar to one of the gang i was working with that's all , i hope this answers you .
I’m sure you will enjoy rooting through all those photos Alan especially as you also worked in that organisation. Many happy memories for you.
Great photograph. Thanks, again! Ozy.
I went up-and-down that cobbled path hundreds of times and that photograph is how I would like to remember it.
The reason for my use of the word ´trap’ Alan was this ;
This batch of photographs were appropriated from the Timepix site ,… as witnessed by the watermark they carry .
My understanding is that these images can be shared freely providing the watermark hasn’t been tampered with , but as I know nothing about copyright law , and as there remains the slight possibility that I may have overlooked something in the small print , there is also the possibility that I may be inviting legal action , although I do feel reasonably confident that I’m doing nothing illegal .
The fact that you say you’re an ex - O/S employee and the fact that you included your contact details suggested to me that you may have been inviting a response via email , which in itself may indirectly have revealed my identity .
So I take your point re: the age difference and I hope you take mine re: self preservation .
I don’t think I could manage a term of porridge at my time of life to be honest …….especially with having to share a cell with Veronica an’ all .… plus … it wouldn’t look too good on my C.V. either would it ?…wouldn’t you agree ?
So , nothing sinister in my post I assure you and apologies if that’s the way that it came across … I hope you understand .
All the best Alan . Oz.
There’ll be more than you and me Ozy. Don’t forget the Jolly Swagman..he’s really going to town with these pic ‘n’ mix. I’m having the top bunk anyway.
