I loved the Waltzer & anyone remember The Caterpillar ? Also the one that used to scare me, the one with the bright, shiny motorbikes that went up & down as well as round & round quite fast...or so it seemed to me !

What was that one called that spun you as if in a centrifuge, then the floor moved away , leaving you pressed against the side of the spinning vessel?

Helen, we and others too would call that ride 'The Cocks' probably as there were model chickens amongst other models and yes motorbikes too as you say, and it did go extremely fast. (see the link below to a site about fairgrounds and where the the ride initially is called an Ark.)
One year when I was about six we went onto that ride and I was sat at the back of a motorbike with my cousin at the front, when the ride had reached full speed I with nothing proper to hold on to began slipping off and was left holding on upside down, luckily I did manage to hang on for the duration of the ride otherwise I'd have been flung off. None of the ride operators come to my aid even though they could see I'd slipped, and all I got for my trouble was a telling off from one of them for acting daft.

Ena, I don't remember that at Wigan Fair but the one in Blackpool was an amazing experience, gravity defying, pinned against that wall when the floor sunk away.
I don't know what G Force it generated but loved it, you wouldn't try eating a candyfloss on that!

I remember it well, though for the life of me, cannot remember its name.
