Wigan Album

Daniel, found out this about him. Robert Alstead OBE, JP, Liberal Councillor and a Mayor of Wigan. A self made businessman, he was born in Upholland and educated at Wigan Elementary School and Wigan Mining & Technical College. He was working aged 10 as a railway bookstall newsboy, after schooling he began making sauces and pickles, and later went into the manufacturing and retail in the clothing trade, eventually owning a chain of shops tailoring for men in the Wigan area and founding Robert Alstead, Ltd, woollen manufacturers and clothing manufacturers.
