Commemorations on the grave of their father (WJ Greener, General Manager, Pemberton Colliery, killed in Bye Pit 1/2/1897) in St John the Divine's churchyard.
2nd Lt. Frank Pemberton Greener, 3rd son, Killed in Action, and Lt. Arthur Stephen Greener, 5th son, Died of Wounds.

WJ Greener's father was recruited from the North-East coalfields because it was thought they had greater experience of working deep gaseous pits than the local Wigan men. His successor, Watkin, was also from the North-East. Wigan pits soon reached depths beyond those in the North-East.
