The junction of Scot Lane and Harold Street, Aspull, in the early 1970s. Crossing the street are, left to right, Aspullers, unknown, Dave Hart, Frank Orrell (Shevington lad) and Richard Dobson.

Shame to see houses boarded up when there's a housing shortage.
Don't know any of these people.

So is the Frank Orrell on the photo YOU, Frank, (the poster of this photo), and you either used a timer on the camera or someone else took it? Or is it a different Frank Orrell?

Is houses still standing. Dennis.

Shame to demolish houses when there's a big demand for them today.

Yes it is me Irene. The picture was taken by another friend. I used to spend a lot of time in Aspull and Haigh in the early 1970s frequenting the Red Lion and the Balcarres with friends. I can't remember the name of the girl on the left but Dave Hart was from Aspull and now lives in Canada as a vicar. Richard Dobson lived on a farm in Toddington Lane originally and now lives elsewhere in the area

Yes Al, most of them are still standing.
I put a photo on here of Frank’s photo with the Chip Shop on not very long ago taken from about the same spot and I think that shows these shops as they are now.

Al, if you look at the 18th Aug 2020 Photo-a-Day. You can see the shops as they was then.

Thankyou for your reply, Frank. I have a couple of your books and the photos are so nostalgic. We Wiganers who love the past are very much in your debt. Thankyou so very much, Frank, for the memories you have captured on film ....the camera shutter took but a moment under your finger but the memories are forever. Thankyou!
