January 1970, a snowy day in Abram. View from the Council Offices looking towards Platt Bridge. The sharp bend on Warrington Road is just out-of-shot on the right.

When I first moved to Abram in 1974, the churchyard was knee-high in grass and nettles and many of the older gravestones were leaning at a dangerous angle. I can remember standing in Jones's Pie-shop across the road one foggy day and thinking the churchyard would make a splendid background for a horror film! However, a team of people were employed to clean it up and they did a splendid job....the old gravestones were straightened and the grass cut....what a difference it made! There is now a voluntary team from the church who keep it mowed, tidy and free from litter and it is a credit to them, and a very pleasant place to have a stroll.

I agree with Helen on the photo being good enough for PAD, but it is 53 years old and may not be allowed as I think the photos on there would have to be more recent, but she is right....it's a good 'un!
