Brilliant photo. I could look at adverts for old Wigan shops/cafes all day. Fascinating!
They probably used yon two blokes’ hair cream to cook the chips in .
Too true Ozy, and they probably bought Brilliantine by the gallon, the Minorca most likely had antimacassars on the lounge chairs too.
Irene, you're good at pareidolia, can you or anyone else see the head and face of a woman in the curtain between the waiter and the seated man, she's maybe having a look at what's on offer on the serving dish, or a ghostly figure of a maid forever trudging the Minorca.
Cyril, I believe there WAS a ghost in The Minorca, but the photo above is The Rendezvous Cafe, not The Minorca. I have never heard of "pareidolia" but I think I can see her....I wish I knew how to enlarge the photo so I could check on that.
I hadn't read it properly Irene and was thinking it to be a part of The Minorca, obviously the image of the face is probably just the way the curtain is pleated and is what pareidolia is - it's when folks can see faces or objects in clouds etc., though having looked with a magnifier the face is still there so it could be a double exposure image. There's many a time when I've said that I can see or make out an image in clouds, markings or whatever and then been accused of smoking them 'funny cigs.' I suppose those 'tea leaves' readers had a similar mindset, not that they had been smoking 'funny cigs,' they may have had a large strong dose of Typhoo but that's all.
